Read2Me is a community initiative to put books in the hands of children in Macon County, NC. We host family events, attend local fairs to hand out free books, we care about the kids of Macon County.

Who we are:

Read2Me is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Macon County in Western North Carolina. We are dedicated to increasing literacy among preschool-age children by making books easily accessible to every family. Our mission is simple: to inspire a lifelong love of reading in every child.

Hosting Family Events

Our Family Reading Events provide parents with skills to help their pre-school children learn to enjoy books.

Little Libraries

We stock the Macon County's little libraries to provide free children's books. We do this every month!

Story Walks

Combining exercise with activity, we have 6 story walks found in recreational areas around the county.

Community

We take every opportunity to attend local festivals and events to distribute gently used books to children (Free).

Dolly Parton Imagination Library

In 1995, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in East Tennessee, USA. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families. This program is now available to families in Macon County.

Rest in Peace, Dolly - you were legendary.

The Literacy & Learning Center

Read2Me partners with the Literary and Learning Center of Highlands, whose mission is to enrich lives and expand the knowledge of children, adults, and families in our community, through diverse educational programs that advance literacy and to promote lifelong learning.
